SAM.gov, UEI and CAGE: what each means

Identifiers and registration serve different purposes. Understand the starting point.

SAM.gov registration

SAM.gov is the official federal system. Full registration allows participation as a direct applicant for awards, subject to applicable requirements. Official registration is free. Rivera offers optional private assistance.

The UEI identifies the entity

The Unique Entity ID identifies an entity. SAM.gov allows obtaining only this identifier without completing registration. Having a UEI alone therefore does not prove full active registration.

CAGE is a separate identifier

The process may include assignment or validation of a CAGE code when applicable. Follow the official instructions for your entity and provide consistent information. A code is not an award or certification of experience.

Maintaining registration

SAM.gov says to renew every 365 days to keep registration active. Check status in the official system and keep confirmations. Renewal does not guarantee contracts. APEX offers free assistance you may consider.
